Philosophical (tongue firmly in cheek) Borderline Questions to the therapist of the universe

Q - Where are we going and why are we in this handbasket?
A - Until you're ready to *work* at healing, you're going to a *very* uncomfortable place.
Q - What if I don't want to go there?
A - Then get out of the handbasket.
Q - You make it sound easy.
A - In a way it is. You *do* have a choice you know.
Q - Screw you! You don't know how hard this is!
A - Back into the basket you go.
Q - I'm sorry. Can I get out of the basket now?
A - I don't know. Can you?
Q - You make it sound like it's all up to me - Like if I don't want to go to hell in a handbasket I can just get out. Is that what you mean?
A - By Jove I think you've got it!
Q - But if it's so easy then why don't all borderlines do it?
A - Because it's not so easy.
Q - Wait a minute, I'm confused again. Earlier you *did* say it was easy.
A - Getting out of the basket is easy. Staying out of the basket is very hard.
Q - Look: I'm getting *very* frustrated with you talking in circles. I want to hit a wall when I feel this way!
A - Here, relax in this basket until you feel better.
Q - I...Don't...Want...To...Be...In...The...BASKET!
A - Then do something to stay out.
Q - But I *am* doing something! I'm talking to you!
A - I'm not your therapist. You shouldn't just be talking to me.
Q - But I don't have a therapist. I'm not crazy.
A - I didn't say you were crazy. Is the basket comfortable?
Q - Are you saying I should get a therapist?
A - Yes, a therapist. But first a doctor.
Q - A doctor? But I'm not sick!
A - A physician can rule out any physical ailments that could be manifesting themselves as psychological maladies. A doctor can also prescribe medications if needed.
Q - So all I need is a doctor, some pills and a therapist and I'll stay out of the basket?
A - No.
Q - So how do I stay out of the basket?
A - Choose not to get back in.
Q - You watched a lot of Kung Fu on television as a child, didn't you?
A - When you can walk across the DSM-IV without leaving a trace, you'll be recovered.
